Breaking Habits

One of the greatest moves towards a sense of self development and potentially spiritual evolution is a progressive and systematic challenging and changing of our regular, daily habits. In reality, it is our habits which we use to define our perception of who we are. To uphold the illusion of the personality that masks the light of our soul. One by one, like chips of a shattered mirror, each habit gone lets a little bit more light shine through.
It is my current working task, to challenge myself daily. The hardest part I am finding, is catching the habit in the act. The snatching up of ice cream, the spontaneous purchase, the reading of the newspaper, the turning on of the radio, the scoffing down sweets, the snide remarks, the bitting of finger nails all one by one need to be caught in the act.
One of the greatest powers latent in man is a power we delusively call "will power".  If our light is the source of our ability to shine, then the power to remove the covers that cloak it, is that Power. The more we exercise it, the more the veil of our potential is lifted. The more we radiate light, the better we can see Truth. The more Truth we are immersed in, the more Love we become capable of showing and in turn the more we will see reflected.
Take just one habit for one week, one day at a time and change the way you react to the impulse to fulfill that habit.
